Professional law enforcement officers’ approach to
self protection and the judicial use of force dictate serious,
dedicated preparation through a continual training regimen.
The foundation of this training is represented by the Survival
Triangle.

1. MENTAL AND PHYSICAL CONDITIONING provides
the foundation of the survival Triangle and is the basis for
all individual tactical skills application. Without realistic
levels of mental and physical conditioning tactical skills
cannot be developed to an appreciable level where proper execution
of technique against real attacks can be performed.
2. STRATEGIES for survival are selected
and formulated according to two criteria: (1)Professional
operational standards and authority and (2)Threat basis design
consisting of threat identification and capability assessment.
3. TACTICS and their component skills are
developed through physical skills and tactical exercises.
Maintenance of skills after development is the critical factor
in tactical skills application. Officers must stay within
the mastery process.
