COMBAT SURVIVAL TRIANGLE
Military Special Operations Forces approach to close-quarters
combat and battlefield survival dictate serious dedicated
preparation through a continual training regimen. The foundation
of this training is represented by the Combat Survival Triangle.
1. MENTAL AND PHYSICAL CONDITIONING provides
the foundation of the Combat Survival Triangle and is the
basis for all individual tactical skills application. Without
realistic levels of mental and physical conditioning tactical
skills cannot be developed to an appreciable level where proper
execution of technique against real attacks can be performed.
2. STRATEGIES for combat survival are selected
and formulated according to: (1) Mission and operational requirements
and (2) Enemy threat identification and capability assessment.
3. TACTICS and their component skills are
developed through physical skills and tactical exercises.
Maintenance of skills after development is the critical factor
in tactical skills application. Operators must stay within
the mastery process.
